Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary started back in 2011
Helping people and animals has always been my passion. I was a stay-at-home mother of three daughters whom I was home schooling. While we had Wiley, our personal horse an old Percheron (Alex) that had numerous health problems along with being very underweight came into our lives. As months passed, we put weight on him and made him much more comfortable. It was during this time I discovered my true calling in life.
Since I was able to provide round the clock care with help from my daughters, it was decided to expand our family. We were very fortunate to lease land for our growing Sanctuary on the outskirts of Randallstown, Md.
To this day my passion for helping people and animals continues and it has grown to be my daughters as well. This Sanctuary is really a family love affair.
In 2023 I decided to officially become a 501c3 nonprofit and since relocated from Randallstown to nearby Woodstock. FDFHS is ever growing with the help from my daughter Taylor and my caring boyfriend Matt along with his family. We continue to aid animals in need, long with new ways to bring awareness to horse rescue.
I truly could not do this without them and people like you who are willing to help in any way you.
Alex was actually our second resident, but he is the inspiration for what we are today. This lovely Percheron gelding arrived at a local rescue from someplace in WV. He was very underweight (by at least 500lbs), anemic, had heart murmur and his feet were very poorly trimmed. After several months at the local rescue, he was improving, but really need some more additional attention that would be better suited toa smaller place. So, he arrived at Flying Duck and stole the show. He slowly gained some much-needed weight, his feet got in better shape with proper trims and Doc guided us through his other health issues. With daily walks and care Alex started to thrive and had quite a happy year with us. Unfortunately one February day it came time for him to cross that rainbow bridge; He was a young 32 yrs. old. His presence is still felt in everything we do to help animals and people – he will always live on that way. RIP Alex!
